SMOKY HOLLOW FARMETTE
About
our Journey
We are a first generation farmette out of Eastern Oregon established in November of 2018. Our dream is to not only produce and provide amazing sustainable foods for our farm to table community, but also to share our passion and practices for raising heritage livestock, and medicinal plants. We hope to cultivate the vibrancy of life by answering the call of these lands and our ancestors to lovingly steward the high desert lands we call home!
What is a “farmette” you might be wondering? Here are some amazing descriptions of our little slice of heaven:
“Farmettes, spanning up to 50 acres, stand in the middle ground between larger working farms, and smaller, hobby farms. They offer a mix of work, potential income, and enjoyment.”
“The focus is often on the lifestyle aspects of farming, such as producing food, connecting with nature, and enjoying a slower pace of life.”
“Farmette activities: Growing vegetables, fruits, and flowers for personal consumption and sometimes for sale. Raising chickens, goats, sheep, or other animals for meat, eggs, or fiber. Engaging in self-sufficiency skills like canning, baking, and crafting. Beekeeping to produce honey and other bee products. Hosting visitors for events like farm dinners or workshops.”
“Farmettes are not always intended to be a primary source of income, though some owners may sell excess produce or products.”
